Hi there my fellow costume enthusiasts and Harlequin followers! Jennifer here, writing her very first blog for Harlequin, although I've been a costumer with the company for 3 years.
So what's new and exciting at your local (and international) costume house? Well I'll tell you, we are busy busy busy as the spring theatre season is in full swing. Fiddler on the Roof for the University of Iowa is all wrapped up and nearly ready to be shipped out. Mostly a stock show, but due to some sizing challenges we found ourselves building new costumes for Tzeital and Motel. I just love all the rough wooly fabrics of this show, so much texture.
Don Giovanni for University of Colorado is approximately 78% finished. This group has all of the lead characters double cast so we have been building plenty of beautiful new costumes into our stock. You can look forward to seeing new looks for Don Otavio, Laperello, Donna Anna, Donna Elvira and Don Giovanni himself! Such rich fabrics! Next week we'll be steaming out the wonderous "Statue" costume. If you have not already checked this costume on our site under Don Giovanni, I suggest you do so immediately. Painted canvas! You won't believe it.

The third show we are working on is West Side Story. I just sung that title as I typed it, thought you should know. We are costuming this show for Seven Ages Productions in Brandon, Manitoba. The look is inspired by the broadway production currently running. All our Shark boys are in shades of purple, off set with lots of black and grays. The Jet boys are in shades of orange and green. It's really looking great. But the women... o the women are going to be fantastic! Our Jets girls are coming along quickly, and I've got a photo at the end for you. All of them in fitted jersey minis! The Sharks girls are in hotter colours, full skirts and a few ruffles here and there.
Well that's all for now! I hope you've enjoyed my first blog. I look forward to bringing you more from inside the Harlequin workshop!
